Are You Scaring Buyers Away??
Three months have passed and still not getting any offers? Are you thinking of another price reduction? Wait! Go over this list and find out if you are scaring your buyers away!
1. Dirt.
Nobody wants a dirty home. Make sure all the rooms are impeccably clean especially the kitchen and the bathroom.
2. Odor
This is of utmost importance, if your house smells like a wet dog or a take-out restaurant when you open the front door, chances are, they are not stepping in. If you’re not sure if your house smells, ask a friend or your neighbor to come in for their honest opinion. Remember, if you can smell it, you can’t sell it!
3. Pets
Most buyers are scared of pets. You might see them as your cute and cuddly companion but for most home buyers pets are unpredictable creatures ready to attack! Relocate them for the time being.
4. Clutter
Clutter screams problem. Homebuyers are always looking for extra space, an extra closet, or the extra cupboard space that they don’t currently have. Ditch your clutter and organize, free up some space! Offer buyers a solution to their space problem.
5. Poor curb appeal
Impress them as soon as they step out of the car; lure them to come inside to enjoy the rest of the house, your curb appeal matters. Your house might look spectacular and captivating inside but if it looks like a crack house from the outside, buyers will just drive by and will head on to the next house.
6. Too many personal items
This is a distraction to a lot of buyers; they always end up feeling confused uncomfortably. Takedown family photos, drawings your kids made, or religious artifacts.
7. Dated fixtures
This is one of the easiest and inexpensive ways to update your home. Replace those dated cupboard and drawer handles with something current! Same with your light fixtures, get rid of those “cheap-looking” and dated brass light fixtures. Home Depot, Rona, or IKEA offers a wide variety of choices depending on your budget. These are small projects that make a huge impact.
8. Wallpaper
If your wallpaper feels like you’re stuck in the set of “Miami Vice” or in the set of “Golden Girls” from the ’80s, wave goodbye to those wallpaper. Strip it down and start painting those walls, buyers will thank you for it!
9. Misrepresenting your home
This is the biggest mistake you can do as a home seller. Make sure all listing information is accurate, especially your online listing photos. Nothing is worse than being lied to.
10. Snoopy Sellers
Are you one of them? Let your real estate agent do their magic for you, this is what they do. Try to go somewhere else during house showings. It is very annoying for buyers and agents alike (not to mention that it’s really awkward for you too) for sellers meddling during these times.
